A strong monsoon signal remains in force across Macao as of early Friday morning, with strong and gusty winds expected to affect bridges. A yellow hot weather alert has also been issued by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (known by its Portuguese initials SMG).
Drivers were advised by SMG to pay attention to traffic safety announcements. Motorcyclists, meanwhile, have been asked to use their designated lane on the Sai Van Bridge to cross between Macao peninsula and Taipa.
Strong monsoon signals are hoisted when winds reaching sustained speeds of 41 kilometres-per-hour or above are, or are expected to be, blowing in Macao.

The SAR’s windy weather was due to Typhoon Gaemi’s influence in the region, SMG said. The powerful storm wrought havoc in Taiwan on both Wednesday and Thursday, before making landfall in Fujian province yesterday evening.
Most of Macao’s weather stations recorded temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius on Thursday afternoon, also the result of Typhoon Gaemi’s influence, TDM reported. A high of 36 degrees Celsius was recorded at the Outer Harbour Meteorological Station, around 2:50 pm.
Today’s temperature is forecast to reach a high of 33 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a few thundery showers. Under the influence of a low pressure trough, persistent showers and thunderstorms have been forecast from Saturday to Wednesday next week.
