The government is set to inject MOP 10 billion into Macao’s economy to support residents and businesses in the wake of the sudden outbreak of Covid-19 at the weekend.

The measures will include: housing tax rebate for commercial and industrial premises, an exemption from tourism tax, a fuel subsidy for the taxi sector, a new round of subsidies for employees, self-employed and businesses, and an interest subsidy for bank loans offered to businesses.

Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong said the new measures will require amendments to this year’s budget, so the government will have to submit an amendment bill to the Legislative Assembly.

Lei also said that Macao’s casinos would remain open during the current outbreak, adding that a plenary session of the legislature slated for tomorrow for the final debate and vote of the gaming amendment bill will be held as scheduled, The Macau Post Daily reported.
