Prices in Macau reversed the downward trend observed since last March and rose 1.53 per cent year on year in November, higher than the +1.33 per cent recorded in October, according to information from the Statistics and Census Bureau.
The increase was due, mainly, to the rise in the prices of meals bought away from home, car park rental prices, the costs of building management services, car prices and vegetables, as well as school fees.
The price indices of the categories of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, Education and Transport rose by 7.47 per cent, 7.38 per cent and 6.70 per cent, respectively, year on year, with that of Food and non-Alcoholic Drinks rising 2.09 per cent, year on year.
The inflation rate measured by the average of the indices of the last 12 months over the preceding 12 months stood at 2.56 per cent, the lowest since at least 2011, when it stood at 5.57 per cent.
In November, the Consumer Price Index increased by 0.29% compared to October 2016, with the largest increases occurring in the Clothing and Footwear (+3.68 per cent) and Health (+1.24 per cent) categories.
