The city’s officially estimated unemployment rate remained unchanged at 1.7 percent in the November 2014 to January 2015 survey period compared to the October-December 2013 period, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced on Tuesday.
Macau’s total labour force reached 404,500 in the latest survey period. Total employment was 397,800, while 6,700 people were unemployed.
Year-on-year, the jobless rate also remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, according to figures released by the Human Resources Office (GRH) recently, the number of imported workers (officially known as non-resident workers) stood at 172,062 at the end of January. Mainlanders accounted for 64.8 percent (111,523) of all imported labour. There were 1,617 workers imported from Taiwan.
Other major imported labour segments were made up by Filipinos (21,977), Vietnamese (13,746), Hongkongers (9,712), Indonesians (4,022), Nepalese (3,116), Malaysians (1,100), Myanmarese (1,041) and Thais (1,038).
At the end of January, 21,954 non-resident workers were employed as domestic helpers, mostly Filipinos, Vietnamese and Indonesians.
