Macau’s composite consumer price index (CPI) for June rose 4.91 percent year-on-year, down slightly from the 4.93 percent growth in the previous month, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced on Tuesday.
The bureau said last month’s increase was mainly due to higher housing rents and the rising cost of eating out and renting parking spaces.
Compared with a year ago, last month recorded notable increases in the price indices of housing and fuels (+9.17 percent), health (+6.22 percent), household goods and furnishings (+5.24 percent), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (+5.15 percent). Last month also saw rising wages for domestic helpers.
For the 12 months ended last month, the average composite CPI rose 5.43 percent from the previous period.
In the second quarter and first half, the index was up 4.79 percent and 4.92 percent year-on-year respectively.
