Macau visitors spend less in Q2 on non-gaming

Visitors’ per-capita non-gaming spending fell by 4 per cent year-on-year and 3.4 per cent quarter-to-quarter to 1,601 patacas in the second quarter, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

According to a DSEC statement, visitors’ total non-gaming spending in the second quarter amounted to 11.7 billion patacas, down by 4.5 per cent year-on-year but up by 1.4 per cent quarter-on-quarter.

Total non-gaming spending by overnight visitors (9.3 billion patacas) and same-day visitors (2.4 billion patacas) dropped by 3 per cent and 10 per cent respectively year-on-year.

In the second quarter, mainlanders’ per-capita non-gaming spending decreased by 8 per cent year-on-year to 1,850 patacas.

However, per-capita non-gaming spending by visitors from Japan (1,731 patacas), Malaysia (1,657 patacas), Hong Kong (955 patacas) and Taiwan (1,548 patacas) rose by 12.1 per cent, 10.1 per cent, 9.8 per cent and 12.7 per cent respectively year-on-year.

Excluding expenditure on gambling, visitors spent mainly on shopping (43.4 per cent), accommodation (26.8 per cent), and food and drinks (20.9 per cent).

Per-capita spending on shopping decreased by 7.6 percent year-on-year to 694 patacas, of which spending on local food products (195 patacas) and cosmetics and perfumes (161 patacas) dropped by 8.9 per cent and 1.9 per cent respectively.

Mainlanders spent an average of 958 patacas on shopping, down 10 per cent year-on-year.
