The Macau government is preparing to recommend a second group of projects for the Guangdong-Macau Industrial Cooperation Park on Hengqin Island, announced the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).
IPIM’s statement said that the Board of Management of the Hengqin New Area, in the municipality of Zhuhai, suggested the Macau government should present new investment projects for the park.
Macau’s first 12 projects at the Industrial Park were launched in 2016 in the areas of traditional Chinese medicine, cultural and creative industries, leisure and tourism, education, catering, hospitality, entertainment, conventions and exhibitions industry, retail and social services.
IPIM said it expected that the first of the 12 initial projects should be completed in 2019.
In 2013, the Macau government presented 33 projects, 16 of which were chosen for the first phase in Hengqin.
The island of Hengqin, near Macau, which is already home to the University of Macau, has an area of 96 square kilometres and is intended to be a new entertainment area to complement Macau and an area for the industrial diversification of the Chinese special administrative region. (Macau News)
