You can now use MPay in Hong Kong through Alipay+

Macao’s popular e-wallet is now accepted by 90 percent of local merchants in Hong Kong through the Alipay+ network.

Users of Macao’s MPay e-wallet can now make payments in Hong Kong with the app through Alipay+, Technode reports. The service, however, is currently only available to Macao residents who have upgraded their accounts to level 3A, 3B or JR on the app.

In a statement, Alipay+ operator Ant International said MPay was one of a number of similar e-wallets now accepted in Hong Kong, including Changi Pay and OCBC Digital (Singapore), GCash and HelloMoney (the Philippines), Kakao Pay, Naver Pay and Toss Pay (South Korea), and several others

Sun Ho, the chairman of MPay operator Macau Pass, told media that the move “enables residents of Macau to enjoy a seamless cross-border mobile payment experience in Hong Kong without the need for currency exchange, thus greatly enhancing the convenience and security of payments.”

Introduced in 2020, Alipay+ is accepted by 88 million merchants in 57 countries and regions, and is linked to 1.5 billion consumer accounts across more than 25 e-wallets and bank apps.

A total of 11 overseas e-wallets and bank apps have been enabled for payment via the Alipay+ network of 80 million merchants on the Chinese mainland.
