MGM China’s two Macao resorts are set to add new meetings and exhibition spaces – with MGM Macau’s opening first, in the second half of 2024, the company announced on Tuesday.

According to multiple media reports, the company has plans for a 60,000-square-foot multi-purpose MICE venue on MGM Macau’s third floor, with an emphasis on what co-chair and executive director Pansy Ho described as “personalised spaces with smaller areas.”

She said the venue would be best-suited to “performances, fashion shows and other events.” MGM Macau aims to time the new venue’s opening with the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to Chinese sovereignty, which falls on 20 December 2024.

MGM China has meanwhile proposed a whole extra storey for its Cotai resort – a 100,000-square-foot arts space atop the existing structure – but Ho noted that this was dependent on government approval.

“This new building is not under our control. We have to apply to the government because this is a new theme,” she said. However, Ho said MGM Cotai was already working with artists to organise exhibitions for the proposed space.

Both resort developments are part of the pledge their parent company made to invest 15 billion patacas into non-gaming activities when it bid for its latest 10-year gaming concession.

MGM China reported net revenues of US$714 million for the second quarter of 2023, an increase of 5 percent when compared to the second quarter of 2019.
