Local law firms DSL and MdME are about to stage a merger bringing 12 partners and more than 40 legal professionals into a single law firm, according to a notice on DSL’s website.

From 1 October, the resulting legal practice will operate under the name MdME and have offices in Macao, Hong Kong and Lisbon (locations where MdME currently operates).

DSL’s managing partner Carlos Simões told local media the agreement between the two firms was “essentially an integration, not an acquisition or partnership” that will benefit both parties as well as their respective clients.

He said the move would allow DSL to “benefit from a professional management structure”, and MdME to gain from DSL’s market experience and skills. DSL’s current office on Av. Da Paia Grande will be rebranded as MdME.

Simões’ counterpart at MdME, Rui Pinto Proença, told media that the merger would position the new MdME as “Macao’s premium international law firm” – giving clients access to a broader pool of talent and greater international reach.

DSL was founded in 2007 and MdME was founded in 2006, according to the firms’ respective websites. Both describe themselves as “full service” law firms.
