A symposium on international cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) kicked off in Macau Wednesday, focusing on the standardisation of TCM and its entry into the global market.
The two-day event, with innovation and internationalisation as its theme, has attracted more than 600 representatives from the Chinese mainland, Macau, the European Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Portuguese-speaking countries.
Secretary for Economy and Finance Leong Vai Tac, told the opening ceremony that the local government attaches great importance to the industrialisation and standardisation of TCM.
Leong said the TCM industry was one of the important parts of Macau’s diversified economy, adding that the local government had been putting much effort and resources into the standardisation of TCM, helping it enter the global market.
He also said that the Macau government has supported the setting up of a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for TCM in Macau, a key laboratory on the quality research of TCM, and the setting up of the Guangdong and Macau TCM Cooperation Industrial Park on Hengqin Island in Zhuhai.
The symposium includes topics such as the deepening of international cooperation and the changing trend of the international policy environment for TCM, as well as innovation and industrial upgrading of TCM.
On the sidelines of the symposium, two round-table meetings and an investment and financing forum will be held.
