Macau’s gold jewellery imports dropped 32.2 percent year-on-year to 3.4 billion patacas in the first half of the year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

Imports of watches fell 11.8 percent to 3.4 billion patacas, while those of handbags and wallets dropped 18.3 percent to 1.5 billion patacas.

Construction materials imports decreased 10.4 percent to 1.5 billion patacas, but mobile phone imports leapt 43.4 percent to 4.4 billion patacas.

Total imports fell 0.3 percent to 42.6 billion patacas.

Re-exports increased 12.1 percent to 4.5 billion patacas. Domestic exports dropped 5.1 percent to 922 million patacas.

While 44.9 percent of total imports originated from the mainland and Hong Kong, 77.3 percent of the city’s exports went to the two markets.
