The Chinese city of Changzhou will house the Jiangsu-Macau cooperation park, according to a memorandum signed on Friday by the Chief Executive of Macau, Chui Sai On and the governor of Jiangsu Province, Shi Taifeng.
The Chief Executive said that the Government of Macau will take advantage of the valuable experience of Jiangsu in international cooperation parks, innovative industries and other capabilities to enhance regional cooperation and therefore the economic diversification of Macau.
The Secretary for the Economy and Finance, Leong Vai Tac, said after the decision was taken to install the park in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, the planning of the park would now be entrusted to an international consulting firm.
Leong Vai Tac said the future park would serve as a platform for general cooperation between Jiangsu and Macau, and will welcome and forward cooperation projects between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, help young people in Macau with entrepreneurship and innovation in inland China and promote exchange and learning in order to increase the professionalism and training of young civil servants in Jiangsu and Macau.
The announcement of the launch of the cooperation park was made on the occasion of the 6th Summit for Commercial and Industrial Development of Jiangsu Province, Macau and Portuguese Speaking Countries held in the territory.
Changzhou is in Jiangsu Province along the Yangtze River about 150 kilometres from Shanghai and Nanjing and has innovation parks built under China’s cooperation with Israel and Germany.
Changzhou, with a population of four million people and an area of 4,375 square kilometres, is located on the Yangtze River Delta one of the most important of China’s development zones in particular for the textile, automotive, food engineering processing, electronics, chemical, and high technology sectors.
