Fuel prices in Macao soared during the past year, new figures show

The cost of vehicular fuel in Macao rose 20.8 per cent in 2022, according to the latest available data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

The average selling price of unleaded gasoline stood at 13.96 patacas per litre last year, while the average price of diesel reached 15.62. The figures for the last quarter of 2022 stood at 14.29 patacas for gasoline and 16.21 patacas for diesel. 

The price of liquefied petroleum gas cylinders meanwhile increased by 9.9 per cent during 2022.

According to DSEC data, 90.9 per cent of the gasoline and 86.1 per cent of the diesel imported by Macao comes from mainland China, with the balance in gasoline and diesel coming from Saudi Arabia and Singapore respectively.

Gasoline consumption in the territory fell 10.9 per cent to 90.8 million litres in 2022 while diesel consumption dropped 5.4 per cent to 88.8 million litres. However DSEC data shows that natural gas consumption increased by 40.1 per cent to 120.3 million cubic metres last year.
