The 12th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (MITE) is set to take place from 26 to 28 April and will occupy three exhibition halls instead of last year’s two, TDM reports

“New elements” were being planned for the event, said Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO). These include additional gastronomical offerings, a Belt and Road section, and a section celebrating the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR)’s 25th anniversary. The latter “will showcase the achievements we have made in tourism development over the past 25 years,” Fernandes said.

The expo will be held at the Venetian’s Cotai Expo Halls. More than 30,000 people attended last year’s MITE, which included 512 exhibitors.

Fernandes also commented on the recent Macao roadshow in Tokyo to promote the SAR as a destination for Japanese travellers, saying that she was happy the three-day event attracted around 400,000 people.

She added that tourism officials would also soon be heading to Xi’an and Qingdao for talks with local counterparts. The two cities recently joined China’s Individual Travel Scheme – enabling independent, visa-free travel to Macao for their residents.

A “Macao Week” would be held in Xi’an this year, she said.
