Light Metro opens to the public next Tuesday

A decade after the project was launched, the Macau Light Rail (LRT) will start operations on Tuesday.

A decade after the project was launched, the Macau Light Rail (LRT) will start operations on Tuesday. 

Chief Executive Chui Sai On will attend the opening ceremony on Tuesday morning. In the afternoon, the metro opens to the public.

According to Sociedade do Metro Ligeiro de Macau (MLM)  the  first train will depart at 3 hours and 33 minutes from Taipa Maritime Terminal station. 

Until December 31st the service will be free and the frequency of trains will be between 5 and 10 minutes.

The opening of Macao LRT offers a new choice of travel for citizens and tourists. 

With a length of 9.3km and 11 stations, the Taipa Line will cover the central residential areas, old town areas and the tourism areas in Taipa. 

It will also connect in series with the 3 major ports of sea, land and air in Macao. 

The train will run every 5 to 10 minutes from 06:30am to 11:15pm during Monday to Thursday, and from 06:30am to 11:59pm during Friday to Sunday and public holidays.
