The 12th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) opens at the Venetian in Cotai next week.

A spokesman for the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute said the forum is Macao’s most influential annual event in the field of international infrastructure cooperation. Many mainland enterprises have signed projects with their counterparts from Portuguese-speaking countries through the forum, based on Macao’s role as a commercial and trade cooperation service hub between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

He added that the event has helped enterprises better understand the infrastructure markets of Portuguese-speaking countries and countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, so serving as an important reference for future business development.

Past success stories include China Railway 20th Bureau Group, which signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of a bridge to connect Brazil’s city of Salvador and Itaparica Island at the 9th IIICF.

The following year, Power Construction Corporation of China signed two contracts, one of which is a wind power project in northern Luzon in the Philippines. And China Road & Bridge signed a contract for a project in Mozambique at the 8th IIICF, and later submitted a feasibility study report, which has since been approved by the authorities.

The IIICF relocated from Beijing to Macao in 2012. Last year 12 cooperation agreements were signed between Chinese and foreign enterprises in various fields including road transport, residential building construction, photovoltaic power stations and wind power.

More information about the 12th IIICF, which will be staged 22-23 July, is available at www.iiicf.org, The Macau Post Daily reported.
