Macau’s inflation rate hit a whopping 6.05 percent last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Wednesday.

A DSEC statement attributed the steep rise mainly to starkly higher housing rents and restaurant prices.

For the whole of last year, notable increases were recorded in the price indices of housing and fuels (+11.93 percent) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (+6.11 percent).

The composite consumer price index (CPI) for last month rose 5.59 percent year-on-year.

Macau’s inflation rate stood at 5.50 percent in 2013 and 6.11 percent in 2012.
