The first local IKEA store will open Thursday in Taipa and the online registration quota for the first week of opening is already full.
Due to the current pandemic situation, IKEA has set limitations on the number of customers allowed within the store. Those wishing to visit must register online for a specific time slot. Each email address can only be used once for registration.
There will be four sessions a day for registrants to choose from. Online registration will end one hour before each session starts and check-in will close 30 minutes before the session ends.
Other regulations have also been set in place, such as temperature checks before entering, mandatory mask-wearing and filling out the personal health declaration by the Health Bureau (SSM).
IKEA will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Located in Nova Grande residence’s shopping mall, the 90,000-square-foot (8,361-square-metre) shop will include an IKEA Café and a Swedish Food Market, with 600 parking spaces for customers.
It held a “test and family day” last Saturday for its employees, ahead of its scheduled soft launch this week, with pictures that circulated on social media leading to much enthusiasm.
As Dairy Farm Group IKEA North Asia Managing Director Adrian Worth said last year, its first store in Macau marks a “major milestone” in IKEA’s long-term commitment to the city, offering affordable and practical home furnishing solutions to the city’s customers.
“By offering a range of amazing value-for-money home furnishing products, together with our famous Swedish food, we hope to make that vision a reality for the people of Macau,” Worth said.
