Macao drivers Charles Leong and André Couto have done well in the first round of this year’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia (LSTA), which took place in Sepang, Malaysia, over the weekend.
Competing in the pro category, two-time Formula 4 Macau Grand Prix winner Leong and his Japanese racing partner Miki Koyama came second in both races – behind New Zealanders Marco Giltrap and Clay Osborne of Absolute Racing each time.
Leong told the Macau Daily Times he thought his team, Iron Lynx, performed “relatively well” given its unfamiliarity with the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo vehicles.
“I am still learning that the car is very different from the single-seaters [Formula cars] and even quite different from other GT3 cars,” the 22-year-old told the Times.

In the pro-am category, veteran racer Couto and his Madness Racing teammate, mainland China’s Jason Chen, came fifth in race one and 7th in race two.
The LSTA moves to Australia for round two in June, then South Korea for round three in July. The series also makes stops in Japan and mainland China before the mid-November final, held in Spain. The Lamborghini Super Trofeo world final, bringing together winners of the Asia, Europe and North America series, takes place immediately afterwards – also in Spain.
The final Asia round and world finals clash with the 2024 Macau Grand Prix, which is scheduled between 14-17 November. Leong has said that the scheduling conflict meant he was still unsure where he would be racing come November.
“At the moment we are planning to do the full year but let’s see … the future is still a bit unsure as anything can happen and change the plan,” he told the Times.
