Some 48 world-class table tennis players are set to compete in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Men’s and Women’s World Cup Macao 2024. The event will be held at Galaxy Arena between 15 and 21 April, according to a statement published by the Sports Bureau.

Macao last hosted the world cup in 1987, when it was a men’s event. That tournament was won by China’s Teng Yi.

“We are thrilled to announce the return of the Singles World Cups in April 2024 in Macao, China,” ITTF president Petra Sörling said in a statement.

ITTF deputy president, Liu Guoliang praised Macao’s experience in staging table tennis events, pointing out that the city “has hosted many World Table Tennis events in recent years, and the enthusiasm of the fans has always impressed our athletes.”

The upcoming competition will mark the return of the ITTF Singles World Cups after they were replaced by the World Table Tennis (WTT) Cup Finals in 2021 and the Mixed Team format in 2023.

Details about the upcoming event – including ticket prices and the full list of competitors – have yet to be announced, although future updates will be available on the Sports Bureau website, the Macao Major Sporting Events Facebook page and from the Sports Bureau’s WeChat public account.
