For the first time in the event’s history, an all-Macao team is set to compete in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia (GTWC Asia) series, the Macau Daily Times reports. The first race in the series takes place this weekend.

The Elegant Racing Team – as two-man team is called – consists of local drivers André Couto and Alex Liu, who will be racing the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

“I am very happy to announce that I will be racing in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia with Mercedes AMG GT3 Team Elegant!” Couto posted on social media. “We are a small team but we will do our best.”

The GTWC kicks off this weekend in Sepang, Malaysia, for rounds one and two. It moves to Thailand in May, followed by three weekends in Japan. The series winds up at Shanghai’s international circuit mid-September.

Altogether, 33 cars from eight different constructors will compete over the 14 rounds, but the Japan leg will see at least 50 GT cars (including the GT4 vehicles) vying for the Japan Cup, the Times says.

The motorsport event first ran in 2017 and this year will be its fifth season.
