The 70th Macau Grand Prix will take place over six days, consist of 11 races and cost 260 million patacas to stage, the head of the Sports Bureau said yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference at the Macau Science Centre, Pun Weng Kun said that outreach activities would strengthen the event’s “synergistic” effect on local tourism, but did not elaborate.
The Grand Prix will take place from 11-12 November and 16-19 November, with a good deal of the funding coming from Macao’s integrated resorts, which have sponsored 20 million patacas each, Macau Post Daily reports.
The first two days of competition will see the Macau Asia Formula 4 race, as well as the Greater Bay Area GT Cup, TCR Asia Challenge and the Macau Roadsport Challenge.

The races to be held on the Grand Prix’s following weekend are the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix – FIA Formula 3 World Cup; Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup; Macau Guia Race-TCR World Tour Final; 55th Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix; Macau Touring Car Cup; and the Macau 70th Anniversary Challenge.
Around 150 racers are expected to compete, including some described as being among the world’s best, but Pun did not reveal any names, Macau Post Daily says.
Meanwhile, the sports official said organisers hoped to make the best traffic arrangements possible during the two Grand Prix weekends and appealed for residents to “understand and be willing to support the event” because of the benefits it has brought to the territory.
Residents will be able to take part in a fun run round the world-famous Guia street circuit in the first week of November, he said.
