Russia’s Karen Khachanov has triumphed at the ATP 2023 Zhuhai Championships.

On Tuesday, the top-seeded player beat Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka 7-6 , 6-1 in the tournament’s final match at the Hengqin International Tennis Centre. It was Khachanov’s fifth ATP Tour title.

The 27-year-old Karen Khachanov – currently ranked 14th in the men’s ATP live rankings – spent three months of this year recovering from a back injury sustained during the French Open in May.

“I was very hungry to come back … it’s really special. It’s for my family,” Khachanov reportedly said after the match.

Meanwhile, the UK’s Jamie Murray and New Zealand’s Michael Venus won the men’s doubles final in Zhuhai – beating the US’s Nathaniel Gammons and Jackson Withrow 6-4, 6-4 on Tuesday.

This was the Zhuhai Championships’ second edition (the first was in 2019) and marked its return to the ATP 250 series after a pandemic-induced hiatus.
