The construction of MGM China’s casino-hotel resort in Cotai is going smoothly, Pansy Ho Chiu King, co-chairperson and executive director of the gaming company, said, adding she believed it will open in the first quarter of next year.

The US-based brokerage Sanford C. Bernstein said last week there was a possibility that the opening of the resort “may trickle into the second quarter” of 2017, according to media reports.

Ho was asked by a reporter about the reports on the sidelines of the Global Chinese Youth Forum for Innovation and Start-ups 2016 (Macau) at Macau Tower. The one-day forum was co-hosted by the Beijing Chinese Overseas Friendship Association and the Beijing-Macau Economic and Cultural Exchange Promotion Association, which is headed by Ho.

Ho said the company’s readjusted schedule of the project was achievable, adding she believed the project won’t face any “serious delay”.

Previously, the company had scheduled the opening for the fourth quarter of this year.
