Macao’s casinos in May recorded gross gaming revenues of MOP 10.4 billion (US$ 1.31 billion), a year-on-year growth of 492.2 per cent, their best takings since the Covid-19 pandemic began to severely affect Macao in February  2020, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) announced today.

In January 2020, the casino sector’s receipts amounted to MOP 22.12 billion. Macao confirmed its first Covid-19 case on 22 January last year.

Month-on-month, May’s revenues rose by 24.3 per cent, reported The Macau Post Daily.

In the first five months of the year, casino revenues rose by 28.7 per cent to MOP 42.48 billion.

At the end of March, 37 casinos owned by six operators were in business, according to the latest available DICJ figures. The operations of four casinos owned by SJM were suspended at that time.
