Macau’s foreign trade falls from January to October

Foreign trade in Macau totalled 66.613 billion patacas (US$8.326 billion) from January to October, which represents a contraction of 13.565 billion patacas over the same period of 2015, reported the Statistics and Census Bureau.

Foreign trade in Macau totalled 66.613 billion patacas (US$8.326 billion) from January to October, which represents a contraction of 13.565 billion patacas over the same period of 2015, reported the Statistics and Census Bureau.

Macau exported in this period goods worth 8.497 billion patacas (-4.8 per cent year on year) and imported goods whose value amounted to 58.116 billion patacas, with the deficit standing at 49.619 billion patacas, an annual improvement of 20.1 per cent.

In the first 10 months of 2015 Macau exported goods worth 8.913 billion patacas and imported goods whose value reached 80.178 billion patacas, leading to a trade deficit of 62.352 billion patacas.

Some of the products imported over the first 10 months of the year recorded sharp falls in value, including wristwatches (-32.3 per cent), passenger cars and motorcycles (-55.4%), fuels and lubricants (-12.8 per cent), mobile phones (-43.4 per cent) and building materials (-37.0 per cent).

In October, Macau exported goods worth 759 million patacas, with an annual drop of 0.7 per cent and imported goods worth 6.085 billion patacas (-19.3 per cent), absorbing a trade deficit of 5.326 billion patacas.
