The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has announced that its Formula 3 World Cup in Macao, which was scheduled to take place during the Macau Grand Prix in November, has been cancelled this year.
The decision was made “due to the ongoing restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic”, FIA said in a statement following its latest World Motor Sport Council meeting today.
Since 2020, the event has been replaced with a Chinese Formula 4 championship race, with local driver Charles Hon Chio Leong winning the past two races in the Macau Grand Prix.
The federation has also cancelled this year’s Grand Touring (GT) and World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) events in Macao.
According to FIA, the WTCR events scheduled for Asia – mainland China, South Korea and Macao – have all been cancelled due to same Covid-19 restrictions around Asia.
