Macao’s Covid-19 vaccination rate hit 85 per cent yesterday evening, with 580,771 people having had at least one jab, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced.

The centre also said that Macao’s inoculation rate amongst those aged between 3 and 11 stood at 52.2 per cent yesterday, while the jab rate amongst all those aged 60 or over reached around 68 per cent.

The centre underlined that senior citizens and those with chronic diseases who have been infected with Covid-19 are “very likely” to suffer a serious condition or die from the novel coronavirus disease, adding that the “real-world” data from Hong Kong has proved that Covid-19 vaccinations are “very effective” in preventing a serious condition and deaths from Covid-19.

The centre said that a third dose, as a Covid-19 booster jab, regardless of inactivated or mRNA vaccines, can provide a protection rate of around 95 per cent against a serious condition and death.

In related news, one more returnee from Hong Kong, a 21-year-old, double-jabbed woman, tested positive for Covid-19 on arrival on Monday. As an asymptomatic and imported case, she is being treated in isolation.

The centre also announced an imported Covid-19 “re-positive” case, a double-jabbed 18-year-old local man who also returned to Macao from Hong Kong on Monday.

The man, who has not come down with any Covid-19 symptoms, has also been transferred to the Public Health Clinical Centre for isolation, The Macau Post Daily reported.

Covid-19 “re-positive” cases are not classified as confirmed Covid-19 cases for Macao, neither are they classified as asymptomatic Covid-19 cases for Macao, The Macau Post Daily reported.
