More than 102,000 tests sparked by the discovery of an imported case of Covid-19 in a 60-year-old tourist from mainland China have all come back negative for the second day in a row.

A total of 102,128 people were sampled on Wednesday in key areas and at regular nucleic acid testing posts. Since last Saturday individuals in three key areas have undergone tests four times on five consecutive days.

On Tuesday, Social Affairs Secretary Elsie Ao Ioeng said that if no positive cases are found in yesterday’s tests it would not be necessary to carry out mass testing in the city.

Health officials stressed that “if individuals do not test as required, their health codes will be converted to yellow the following day. The green code can only be restored after testing with a negative result.”

Ao reaffirmed that the recent cases of Covid-19 “have no risk of community transmission” and noted that the situation “is manageable”.

She underlined that, at this moment, “the cooperation measure with Zhuhai for the prevention and control of the epidemic is in force, including the presentation of the negative result valid for 24 hours”.
