The number of Covid-19 infections in Macao is now “obviously” easing, says the head of the Health Bureau, Dr Alvis Lo.

In remarks quoted by Macau Post Daily, the health official said the daily number of new infections had dropped to around 100 to 200 compared to a peak of around 900 in the last half of May.

He added that an average of 800 or 900 people a day were seeking treatment at the emergency department of the public Conde de São Januário Hospital, down from around 1,300 at the peak.

Dr Lo said that he expected a resurgence of Covid during the winter months and urged the public to get vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre says there were 159 Covid infections reported on Tuesday, down from the 245 infections reported on Monday.

According to the centre, six patients were admitted to the hospital on Tuesday for treatment, bringing to 172 the number of Covid patients admitted to treatment facilities since the start of May.
