The Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) announced in a statement that Macau won the “Best MICE City – Asia” award at the “1st M&C Asia Stella Awards 2019” event in Singapore on Wednesday.

The event was organised by the Northstar Travel Group, and the award was accepted by an IPIM delegate, the statement said.

Northstar Travel Group describes itself as “the leading B-to-B information and marketing solutions company serving all segments of the travel industry including leisure/retail, corporate/business travel, business and sports meetings, incentives, and travel technology,” according to its website.

MICE stands for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions.

The statement did not reveal the name of the IPIM delegate who received the award.

The statement noted that the “M&C Asia Stella Awards 2019” are compliment awards for the MICE sector, based on votes by the readers of the M&C Asia Magazine.

According to the statement, the magazine is highly respected in the Asia-Pacific region for its coverage of the MICE sector.

The prizes comprise 25 individual awards across 7 categories, such as the “Best MICE City – Asia”, the “Best Destination Management Company – Asia”, the “Best Meetings Hotel – Singapore” and the “Best Meetings Hotel – Macau”.

However, the statement did not reveal the name of the “Best Meetings Hotel – Macau”.

The statement underlined that the “Best MICE City – Asia” award for Macau is not only an “affirmation” for the local MICE facilities and services, but also as a reflection of support and cooperation from all social sectors in developing Macau as the best MICE city in Asia.

According to the Macau Post Daily, the statement also noted that IPIM would continue to develop the MICE industry and attract more high-quality MICE projects to Macau, and let more MICE organisers know about Macau’s advantages in the sector.
