A key event on the gaming industry calendar is making its comeback this week after being on hiatus during the Covid-19 pandemic. Global Gaming Expo Asia (G2E Asia) will take place at the Venetian Macao from 11 to 13 July, together with the Asian IR Expo. According to local media reports, some 100 exhibitors are expected to lure more than 5,000 buyers and trade visitors from 80 countries and regions.

The keynote address will be given on Tuesday by the president of Sands China, Wilfred Wong, who will tackle a growing preoccupation of the territory’s concessionaires – “the latest trends and developments in Macao’s non-gaming [sector].”

Macao’s gaming operators are required to make substantial investments in non-gaming infrastructure – such as sporting and cultural facilities – over the next decade as a condition of the renewal of their casino licences.

The topic is also being taken up in several talks and panel discussions over the three days, with experts tackling everything from the “Transition from VIP to mass and non-gaming” to “Building up [an] art destination” and “What it takes to become a popular sports tourism destination.”

Speakers at the event include the head of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; the dean of hospitality and tourism management at the Macau University of Science and Technology, Ben Goh; and the president of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man.
