Between 3,000 and 5,000 international visitors are arriving in Macao each day, says tourism chief Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes.
The head of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) made the remarks yesterday on the sidelines of the Macao International Travel Industry Expo at the World Trade Centre Macau.
According to a report in Macau Post Daily, she said the volume of foreign visitors was now at 20 to 30 percent of the pre-pandemic level and more than double the daily average in the first quarter of this year.

Macao is anxious to increase the number of foreign visitors to the territory in order to reduce its overwhelming dependence on the Greater China market. The great bulk of visitors – estimated by Senna Fernandes at over 60,000 daily – are from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The tourism chief said she was optimistic that international tourism would be revived “effectively” with the holding of major events in Macau in the second half of the year and the gradual resumption of international flights.
She added that as the visitors became “more and more diverse”, the MGTO would adjust its publicity and services to meet the needs of new kinds of tourists.
