Macau International Airport reported its passenger traffic rose 20% compared to a year ago to a more than 1.6 million passengers in the first quarter this year, or 18,000 passengers daily.

The airport handled more than 14,000 flights (departure and arrival), a rise of 7% year-on-year. During the four-day Easter Holidays, the airport handled more than 80,000 passengers, a jump of 24% compared to a year ago.

Another notable event during the quarter was the inauguration of the Macau to Fukuoka flights by Macau Airline, further enriching the flight traffic between Macau and Japan.

With new routes and passenger load factor rising, the number of passengers traffics between Macau and Southeast Asia, Mainland China and Taiwan increased 25%, 8% and 31% respectively. The overall performance of Macau air transport industry was good in the quarter.

Looking forward to the second quarter, Macau Airport revealed that more Vietnamese airlines have the intention to operate flights between Nha Trang and Macau. With more new airlines entering the market, Macau Airport’s passenger traffic will grow further.
