The second day of sustainability summit discussions took place at the BEYOND International Technology and Innovation Expo 2023 on Thursday.
The three-day Beyond Expo is bringing together hundreds of professionals, entrepreneurs and academics at the Venetian Macao, with three component conferences looking at the impact of technology on our planet, our daily lives and our bodies.
At the sustainability summit, the day’s proceedings began with discussions on green infrastructure and low-carbon ways to bring about economic growth.
In the afternoon, a conversation on energy transition took place between Humphrey Wu, the senior vice president of Towngas Smart Energy, and Raymond Leung, the chief technology officer of Huawei International.
“Our company has been closely following the nation’s energy strategy and policy, including using more integrated energy and decarbonisation,” Wu said.

He added that Towngas Smart Energy had implemented around 80 zero-carbon parks in China, housing mainly industrial clients.
“We provide the clients with integrated energy solutions and help them to operate these systems, so that the energy supply can be more environmentally friendly and maximise the efficiency at the same time” he added.
Raymond Leung said that Huawei had recently launched an energy department and introduced a “super fast battery pack” for electric vehicles, capable of charging a car in as little as 10 minutes.
He added that while Huawei was known for its telecom products, it is also placing much importance on technology development, including artificial intelligence.
Panel discussions on climate fintech, agricultural technology and supply chain optimization closed out day two of the summit.
The mission of BEYOND Expo 2023 is to “encourage exchanges of ideas” and “promote comprehensive industrial upgrading, development, and transformation, for a better global innovation ecology”.
The event is being held until 12 May at the Venetian Macao Convention and Exhibition Centre.
