It’s a busy week for events in the GBA – and with transport links and checkpoint clearance getting smoother by the day, you’ve no excuse not to get out there and experience the best of what the region has to offer.
Macao has the Fringe Festival in town throughout September, along with a handful of exciting independent happenings, plus the city’s annual fireworks contest and its first ever performing arts festival for toddlers.
Meanwhile, highlights from the GBA include Hong Kong’s first hot air balloon festival and Guangzhou’s international coffee festival.

Macao
Thetiredeyes live
Known for their fusion of jazz, R&B, neo soul, hip hop, and pop, local band thetiredeyes will be performing a special set at the Roadhouse’s jazz night, followed by a jam session.

Zodiac with you oil painting exhibition
Local artist Sharon Van draws inspiration from the animals of the Chinese zodiac and transforms them into metaphors for human behaviour in this oil painting series.

Living Here, Living Together guided tour
Learn about the daily experiences and stories of second-generation Filipinos in Macao while walking around the city. Delivered in Tagalog and Cantonese, with written Chinese and English translation.

Cute Fest
Cute Fest is Macao’s first ever performing arts festival for infants and toddlers, taking place across various venues from 4 to 14 September.

Macao City Fringe Festival
This year’s Fringe festival brings 18 arts programmes and 13 outreach activities to the city, with events officially kicking off on the 5 September with a puppetry show at the Macao Tea Culture House.

The Macao Orchestra’s season opening concert
The Macao Orchestra kicks off its new season by celebrating the 150th anniversary of Impressionist maestro Maurice Ravel, along with rising Korean violinist Inmo Yang’s debut performance in Macao.

The annual fireworks display contest kicks off this month, lighting up the skies with firework displays from teams hailing from all over the world.

An evening of experimental music and art
Head to Fabrica Va Nam to enjoy visual art and experimental live music in a lowkey arts space, featuring artists from Macao, Portugal, Spain, Japan and more. You can even learn how to use a modular synth in a workshop run by Guia Experimental.

Hot Air Balloon Festival
Hong Kong’s skies will welcome its first ever hot air balloon festival between 4-7 September, alongside a star-studded music festival featuring Joey Yung, Leo Ku and Tyson Yoshi.

The Gifts of the Gods exhibition
Shenzhen Museum is showcasing 115 exquisite pottery, sculptures, bronzeware, and glassware artefacts from the Apulia region of Southern Italy during the ancient Greek period.

Veronica’s Room theatre production
Watch Shenzhen’s interpretation of the Broadway psychological thriller Veronica’s Room, set instead in 1990s Hong Kong where a young woman and the audience grapple with her identity while she is trapped inside an elderly couple’s house.

The 7th Kashi International Coffee Festival
This year’s edition of the Guangzhou festival features coffee brands from over 11 countries, the province’s first barista skills competition for visually impaired baristas, and an arts and cultural market across three days.

Musicians from the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra in concert
