Macao and Hong Kong’s top officials met yesterday, aiming to inject new momentum into cooperation between the two Special Administrative Regions.
Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai of Macao and Chief Executive John Lee of Hong Kong held discussions at the Government Headquarters in Macao. They focused on strengthening cooperation, particularly in tourism, advancing development in the Greater Bay Area, and exploring opportunities of mutual interest in Hengqin.
Sam expressed a desire for enhanced policy coordination. Lee echoed the sentiment, noting the SARs’ close geographical ties and existing strong cooperation in areas like economy, infrastructure, tourism, and culture.
Both leaders affirmed that as central cities of the Greater Bay Area, Macao and Hong Kong would continue to promote its development.

Hengqin was identified as crucial for Macao’s integration into the Greater Bay Area and economic diversification, with Sam welcoming greater participation from Hong Kong enterprises.
Lee noted Hengqin’s strategic importance in Macao’s long-term prosperity. He and his delegation visited the Traditional Chinese Medicine Cultural Experience Center and the Planning Exhibition Hall in Hengqin.
Regarding the upcoming 15th National Games, Sam stated that Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao would collaborate to deliver exceptional sporting events, suggesting further joint sports initiatives to attract diverse visitors.
In tourism, Sam proposed enhancing transport connectivity and jointly promoting the Greater Bay Area’s brand through tailored packages and incentives, aiming to attract more visitors via multi-destination itineraries.
