A number of workshops and activities will take place at Dom Pedro V Theatre on July 15 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Historic Centre of Macao’s inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The events, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, have been scheduled between 2 pm and 6 pm, and will include a heritage-related book stall, the sale of commemorative stamps for philately enthusiasts, face painting and a themed photo booth. Various competitions with prizes will be running throughout, and a commemorative ceremony will be held at 4.30 pm.
Two World Heritage Texture Painting Workshops have been organised, for up to 10 participants per two-hour session. Professional instructors will teach the basics of texture painting and participants will complete a piece of artwork inspired by one of the city’s heritage landmarks. A Silver Clay Making Workshop will also take place for up to 20 participants, introducing the art of silver jewellery design.

Both workshops are reserved for those aged 16 and up, who can register via their Macao One Accounts. In cases where registrations exceed capacity, participants will be selected by lottery. On-site registration will be available if vacancies remain.
Macao’s Historic Centre stretches from the A-Ma Temple to the Guia Fortress, and includes landmarks like the Ruins of St Paul’s, Dom Pedro V Theatre, the Sir Robert Ho Tung Library and the Mandarin’s House. Its area encircles a group of 22 temples, churches, civic buildings and public squares that were recognised by UNESCO for their “outstanding universal value” in 2005.
Last year, the Cultural Affairs Bureau unveiled new regulations to protect these heritage sites, with guidelines covering construction restrictions, sustainability and impact assessments around architectural restorations.
