Macao has been ranked as one of the world’s top 100 city destinations by Euromonitor

The SAR earned 67th place in the city destination rankings, behind neighbouring Hong Kong in 21st place but ahead of Zhuhai in 99th
  • Paris retained its crown as the Euromonitor’s top city for the fourth consecutive time, with Madrid and Tokyo in second and third place

Macao made it to 67th place in a listing of the world’s top 100 city destinations for 2024, which was published on Wednesday by the data analytics firm, Euromonitor International. 

Compared with last year, Macao rose by two places. Other Chinese cities that were featured on the list include Taipei (11th place), Hong Kong (21st place), Shanghai (37th place), Guangzhou (52nd place), Beijing (56th place), Shenzhen (60th place) and Zhuhai (99th place). 

Topping the list was Paris, which has defended its position for four consecutive years. In second place was Madrid, followed by Tokyo, Rome, Milan and New York.

Overall, six out of the ten cities in the top ten were European destinations such as Amsterdam (7th place) and Barcelona (10th place). 

In the top 20 rankings, Europe led other regions with nine cities, followed by Asia-Pacific with six cities, two in North America, one in Middle East and Africa, and two in Australasia.

According to Euromonitor International, scores are assigned to each city based on six key factors, including economic and business performance, tourism performance, tourism infrastructure, tourism policy and attractiveness, health and safety, as well as sustainability.  See the full list here.
