A large gathering of business leaders, politicians, and family friends came together in Macao yesterday to honour the late Lui Che Woo, the Galaxy Entertainment Group founder who died on November 7 at the age of 95.
Among those in attendance were Elsie Ao Ieong, Macao’s secretary for social affairs and culture, and José Maria da Fonseca Tavares, president of the city’s Municipal Affairs Bureau, who gathered to honor Lui’s life and contributions, the South China Morning Post reported.
The memorial area is located at the ground floor of Hall B at the Galaxy International Convention Center, and will remain open until December 3 from 11 am to 6 pm. Members of the public are invited to leave their messages of condolence in the guest book.
A funeral service will be held at the Hong Kong Funeral Parlour in Macao’s neighbouring SAR on 4 December, the Post says.

Recognized as one of Hong Kong’s top entrepreneurs, Lui founded the K. Wah Group of property companies in 1955, initially specializing in construction materials before branching out into real estate development.
In 2002, Lui’s Galaxy Entertainment Group became one of the first companies to receive a casino license after Macao opened its gambling market. Last year, Forbes estimated his net worth at approximately US$12.1 billion, ranking him seventh among Hong Kong’s wealthiest individuals.
Lui celebrated his 95th birthday with a gala dinner two months ago, featuring performances by veteran pop singer George Lam and Hong Kong tenor Warren Mok.
“I am thankful for the blessings I have received, enabling me to have a home filled with children and grandchildren and a life rich in fulfillment,” he remarked at the event.
