Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac said on Monday the government hoped to boost co-operation between Macau companies and their counterparts in Zhejiang, adding that the cultural and commercial exchanges between the two places were becoming more frequent.
Addressing the founding ceremony of the Association of Zhejiang Entrepreneurs of Macau at Macau Tower, the policy secretary said he hoped more businesspeople from Zhejiang would invest in the city.
He also praised Zhejiang businesspeople for their “spirit of innovation and creativity”. “[Being creative and innovative] is the reason for Zhejiang businesspeople’s success. Macau should draw lessons from them,” Leong said. “We hope to further boost co-operation between industries in Macau and Zhejiang under the CEPA framework.”
The Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) is an economic and trade pact between Macau and the mainland.
Over 200 guests including Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On and his predecessor Edmund Ho Hau Wah, now a vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) attended the ceremony.
Zhejiang, which has around 55 million inhabitants and covers about 101,800 square kilometres, is part of the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone, which also encompasses Shanghai and Jiangsu.
