The Identification Service Bureau (DSI) hopes to enable Macao passport holders to use foreign countries’ automated immigration clearance systems when travelling, TDM reports.
The bureau recently confirmed it was studying the eligibility criteria imposed by various countries for allowing travellers to pass through such systems.
The systems typically use biometric data like fingerprints and iris recognition to verify people’s identities, making for faster, more convenient border control.

The DSI said it aimed to allow foreign nationals to use Macao’s own automatic immigration clearance system, too.
This would presumably help smooth international travellers’ entries and exits from Macao, in light of the government’s aim of attracting upward of three million visitors from outside of Greater China this year – more than double 2023’s intake.
The DSI also said it had recently resumed visa-free negotiations with several foreign countries.
