Macau imported Portuguese wine worth 63.8 million patacas last year, a year-on-year growth of nine percent, TDM-Radio Macau reported Wednesday.
According to the report citing industry data, Macau imported 1.8 million litres of Portuguese wine last year, more than from any other country.
However, in terms of the value of imports France continued to be Macau’s number-one source of wine, reaching 695 million patacas last year, even though the French exported 500,000 litres less than the Portuguese to Macau.
In terms of Macau’s value of wine imports, Portugal continued to be in third place, after Australia with imports worth 95 million patacas (up 56 percent).
The value of French wine imports dropped 17 percent last year.
Concerning the value of Macau’s wine imports, French wine had a market share of 73 percent in Macau last year, down from 80 percent in 2017. Australia had a market share of 10 percent (up from six percent in 2017), while Portugal’s share rose from six to seven percent.
Last year, Macau imported some 5 million litres of wine, a year-on-year decrease of six percent. The volume of Portuguese wine imports fell 9 percent last year, but still was able to keep its market share of 37 percent by volume between 2017 and last year, more than any other country.
According to the report, Portugal exported wine worth 22 million euros (201 million patacas) to the Chinese mainland last year, up 1.26 percent year-on-year.(Macaunews)
