Chief Executive Chui Sai On Tuesday congratulated the city’s newly-elected lawmakers on their success, vowing that the government and the legislature will continue to adhere to the principle of “one country, two systems” to serve Macau people.
A statement by the Government Spokesperson’s Office quoted Chui as saying that he would like to express gratitude to all candidates and voters on behalf of the government for their participation in Sunday’s direct and indirect legislative elections.
Chui also thanked the Legislative Assembly Electoral Affairs Committee (CAEAL), General Audit Committee, related government entities and polling station workers for their contributions and the local media for reporting the elections widely and fairly.
The statement also quoted Chui as saying that his government and the incoming legislature would adhere to the principles of “one country, two systems” and “Macau people governing Macau” as well as the Macau Basic Law to serve local citizens. Chui was also quoted as saying that the government and the newly-elected lawmakers would work together to promote the “love the country, love Macau” spirit.
Meanwhile, Kuok Kin Hong, who heads the Ballot Tabulation Committee said yesterday at the Public Administration Building in Rua do Campo that after the committee had reviewed about 1,300 votes initially deemed invalid and blank, 39 votes had meanwhile been declared valid. He said the previously announced official results of the direct legislative election were unaffected by the new tabulation.
According to Kuok, the 14 newly directly-elected lawmakers are: Mak Soi Kun with 17,214 votes, Ella Lei Cheng I with 16,696 votes, Si Ka Lon with 14,879 votes, José Maria Pereira Coutinho with 14,386 votes, Ho Ion Sang with 12,340 votes, Au Kam San with 11,381 votes, Angela Leong On Kei with 10,452 votes, Becky Song Pek Kei with 10,103 votes, Ng Kuok Cheong with 10,080 votes, Agnes Lam Iok Fong with 9,590 votes, Wong Kit Cheng with 9,496 votes, Sulu Sou Ka Hou with 9,213 votes, Zheng Anting with 8,607 votes and Leong Sun Iok with 8,348 votes.
Kuok also said none of the 24 electoral groups had filed an appeal to the Court of Final Appeal (TUI) about the election results. According to the CAEAL website, the appeals deadline is today.
October 4, coinciding with the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival, is the deadline for the official election results publication in the Official Gazette (BO).
Apart from the 14 lawmakers directly elected by popular vote on Sunday, another 12 lawmakers were elected by association representatives.
Chui is slated to announced the legislature’s seven appointed members before lawmakers start their new term on October 16.
The confirmed results are available on the CAEAL website. They were also posted at the Public Administration Building Tuesday.
