The 2026 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (MIECF) is set to take place at the Venetian’s Cotai Expo between tomorrow and Saturday, the organisers announced in a statement yesterday.

Centred around the theme of “Low-carbon, Zero Waste Cities: Embarking on a Global Collaboration,” this year’s event will feature a variety of activities tied to green development such as forums, exhibitions, networking and matching sessions, as well as the Green Public Day.

Around 12,000 square metres of space have been allocated to over 350 exhibitors hailing from 12 countries and regions, who will showcase a variety of green products and services.

Roughly 20 percent of the exhibitors are from areas outside of Macao, covering major energy firms, environmental companies and organisations, and technology enterprises from locations such as mainland China, Portuguese and Spanish-speaking countries, as well as Southeast Asian nations.

As well, three new exhibition zones  – Zero-waste Circular Economy Exhibition Zone, Green Mobility Zone and Green and Low-carbon Project Zone – will be introduced this year, showcasing over 500 innovative green products and solutions.

A two-day Green Forum is also set to take place, with local and international experts on environmental protection and carbon neutrality scheduled to give talks. They include keynote speaker and dean of Tsinghua University’s Institute for Carbon Neutrality, He Kebin, who will address the audience on the topic of “Dual Carbon Initiatives and Zero Waste City Development.”

The various Green Forum talks will be organised into four thematic sessions. Session 1, which explores issues relating to digital carbon finance, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investment and green bonds, is due to be held on day one of the forum.

Sessions 2 to 4 will take place on day 2, with speakers of the second session exploring carbon reduction, pollution control and other environmental efforts in the context of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The focus of session 3 will be on ways in which the Greater Bay Area cities and surrounding area can foster the spread of green and low-carbon technologies by taking advantage of their strengths. Meanwhile, session 4 will look at solid waste reduction and the concept of zero waste cities.

On top of the exhibition and Green Forum, 2026 MIECF will carry out four themed matching sessions in the Green Synergy Hub, allowing businesses and organisations to connect, implement projects and transfer technology. Other activities include technical visits to the Cotai Ecological Zones and the Macao Refuse Incineration Plant.

On Saturday – the final day of the MIECF, members of the public will be permitted to enter the venue for free, as part of Green Public Day. A variety of activities will be organised during the open day event, including stage and booth games for children, environmental workshops and gift giveaways.

An electric bus service will operate on the day to ferry members of the public between The Venetian Macao and four locations across Macao and Taipa. For more detail about the routes and schedule, click here.

First organised in 2008, the MIECF is hosted by the Macao government, with support from China’s various ministries, including the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Over the past five straight years, the MIECF has managed to reach “carbon neutrality.”
