The MGM Hong Kong International Airport City Terminal officially began operations yesterday in Macao. The facility, a joint venture between Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and Zhuhai Airport, is situated at MGM Cotai. It is designed as a dual-city air terminal, with cross-boundary passenger services managed by China Travel Tours Transportation Services.

The terminal offers real-time flight information and self-check-in counters and is open daily from 9 am to 6:30 pm, providing a variety of transport options to both HKIA and Zhuhai Airport. Passengers departing from the city terminal can reach HKIA, via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, in approximately 90 minutes. Travel to Zhuhai Airport takes around 60 minutes.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Kenneth Feng, CEO of MGM China Holdings, said: “The new city airport terminal extends the check-in services of HKIA and Zhuhai Airport directly to MGM Cotai, enabling our guests to connect with both airports more efficiently and enjoy a smoother cross border travel experience.”

He added that he hoped the terminal would positively influence tourism by attracting international visitors and encouraging them to stay for longer periods.

Previously, travellers eligible for 144 or 240-hour visa-free transit might have only briefly passed through Macao. The increased convenience offered by the new terminal now enables them to explore the city at a more leisurely pace, he said.

Mrs Vivian Cheung Kar-fay, CEO of the Airport Authority Hong Kong, said that the establishment of the new city terminal would further improve connectivity with the city. She said the HKIA intended to expand the number of city terminals to 50 by 2027 to attract more GBA travellers.
