Three stray dogs killed six flamingos and severely injured another in Seac Pai Van Park on Wednesday.

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said that although the flamingo zone is fenced off stray dogs living in the nearby hilly area were able to bust in.

An IAM security guard patrolling the flamingo zone on Wednesday morning found three stray dogs in the zone and tried to catch them but failed. The caretakers of the flamingos arrived at the scene after the guard alerted them, where they discovered seven flamingos had been attacked.

Five of the flamingos were killed outright, while the other two flamingos’ backs and wings were in a serious condition as the dogs had bitten through to the bone.

One of the severely injured flamingos died yesterday morning, and the other one was still in critical condition. The IAM added that there are still 11 flamingos in the park which were not injured.

After the incident, the bureau said that its officials found a hole in the wire fence, which the dogs probably used before launching their murderous attack.

The IAM pointed out that stray dogs often enter the park so workers mount patrols  every day. Since the incident, bureau officials have increased the number of people patrolling the area.

The bureau urged residents to be responsible pet owners and not to abandon pets as they could endanger other animals, The Macau Post Daily reported.
