The prospect of re-establishing a direct air link between Macao and Portugal could be on the horizon, according to Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macao Government Tourism Office.
In a recent interview with TDM, Senna Fernandes expressed her hope for the resumption of these flights, although she stopped short of confirming when they might begin.
The absence of a direct connection has stretched on for over 25 years, since the handover of Macao from Portugal to China.

Senna Fernandes acknowledged the current shortfall in international flights to Macao, a situation that has hampered efforts to attract a larger influx of international tourists.
Despite these challenges, the tourism office anticipates that Macao will see around two million foreign visitors this year. A direct flight path to Portugal would not only facilitate travel but is also expected to spur growth in tourism numbers.
