Despite its famous maritime history, Macao has surprisingly few opportunities for visitors (and residents) to get a feel for the city from the water.
However, a new boat tour, operated by MGM and launched this month, is giving sightseers a chance to get a seaborne perspective. Sailing twice daily, the roughly 40-minute cruises take passengers between Barra Pier, on the Macao peninsula, and Coloane Pier, and offer glimpses of famous landmarks such as the Guia Fortress
The small vessel used for the cruises can seat 43 passengers and features a cabin decorated with vibrant Macao-themed graphics.

The initiative is part of a broader gentrification program spearheaded by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and MGM that aims to revitalise the historic Barra area into a “cultural and creative” park. The casino concessionaire noted that the cruises “will play an important role in further optimising tourism facilities and the ensuing travel experience for visitors in the area.”
Sailings depart from Barra Pier at 2pm and 4pm each day, and from Coloane Pier at 2:30pm and 4:30 daily.
Tickets cost HK$60 and can be purchased at the piers or via this link.
